Sometimes we all just need a couple of hours to be at peace and not have to worry. Just that little break can mean all the world.
I’ve written about work a lot over the past few weeks. There has been a lot going on outside of work..and indirectly related to work, as well. I have spent a lot of time making phone calls lately for a variety of reasons as I start to make serious preparations to begin presenting full time within the next three to six months. There is a lot more that goes into all this than people think.
For me, because of the nature of my job, I am having to have disclose to a lot of leaders within our organization. A lot of people ask me why I am having to talk with so many people. Well, my department literally touches every single department in our organization. For ten years, I have been the person every department has called for any concerns or needs that my department may be a part of. From the director level all the way to the CEO, when there is a major concern…they call me directly, even at 3am, to make sure the problem gets addressed.
That means I am having to talk with a lot of people and I am choosing to have those talks outside of regular business hours. There have been a lot of unofficial coffee sit downs, happy hour drinks and phone calls. Thus far, I have talked with about half of the directors, most of the VP’s and a couple of our chief officers…plus the chairs of every committee I sit on at work. I will say its a good thing cell phone plans now have unlimited minutes or else I would be bankrupt this month.
Why is this so important to do? Because in an organization of approximately 20,000 employees and being known as one of the go to people in your area of specialty, having the support of senior leadership is critical for a successful transition of name and presentation.
I have also been talking with some friends who are stepping up to help me learn make up and do some clothes shopping within my limited budget. Its been a lot.
Toss in trying to keep up with my blogging requirements and just some very emotional moments over the past week…its been rather exhausting.
Now, I have to say, god bless my friend Ryanna. She is one of those friends who has been there for me almost daily and has supported me without reservation on my journey since the day I disclosed publicly on Facebook (thought I suspect she knew before that post). Along with being such a great friend, I also have so much respect for her as a photographer and blogger and her ability to blog both men’s and women’s items. She has also been my savior any time I have needed to blog a couples pose.
As it turned out, we both wanted to blog the lovely pose we used in this picture. She was so sweet in knowing that I was going and going so much that she took the time to take care of pretty much everything for these pictures. All I had to do was get dressed, show up and shoot. It was such an amazing gesture of support and I am so grateful to not only have her as a friend, but also for her letting me just focus on taking the picture for the night.
As we talked through the shoot and after, we shared and laughed about how nice it is, as women, to be able to just feel like a woman for a bit. To be able to get dressed up. To go dancing. To be able just revel in your femininity and just be. Thanks to her kindness, I was able to do that for a couple of hours last night. It was a special gift from a dear friend.
For a couple of hours, I was able to have some peace and just enjoy being me and feeling utterly beautiful.
Don’t we all need those moments, ladies?
