Its been hot here…REALLY hot!!! And not in a good way.
The Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern US are horrible during the summers. With the heat and the humidity combined, a day in the upper 80’s can feel oppressive. Over the past week, we have been having highs in the mid to upper 90’s here, with temperatures expected to top 100 over the weekend. Throw in the humidity that we always get here during the summer…and it makes for a truly oppressive daily life if you don’t have the comfort of air conditioning.
I have felt it more lately than I have since right out of college. My AC died several weeks ago and I was saving up to get it fixed. Someone had come by and told me I needed an entirely new outside unit…a cost I had not been anticipating and one I couldn’t afford right now, but could within a few months. So, since it went out, I have been cooling myself with fans strategically placed around my home. Most of the time I have managed well but the heat has made it hard at times to be productive because it was just so sticky.
Thankfully, last night, I was able to get my AC fixed, and for a lot less money than the first quote I was given. The repair couldn’t have come at a better time too as this week, the temperatures inside my actual house, had gotten to be unbearable. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I am a total princess when it comes to not wanting to sweat. And I get the joys of hot flashes from my HRT. But when you walk in the door and look at your thermostat and see it reading 90 degrees, all the fans in the world aren’t going to cool you off. And some nights through these past few weeks…death would have been a nicer fate.
The good thing is that now I can relax and remain cool. Walking into my house today after work was the first day it has felt comfortable in weeks. It was so bad over the past few weeks that I was avoiding taking my bubble baths, one of the little things in life I cherish, because the bathroom was so stuffy.
Good thing is, now I can take them again. I think tonight I may just slip into the tub and soak the worries and stresses away.
