Love Yourself

N647 All You Have To Do Is Call Blog

This past weekend, we released the 5th anniversary edition of ECLIPSE Magazine.  It was a special moment for Trouble to see his baby become 5 years old.  He has put so much of his heart and soul into it, as has the rest of the ECLIPSE team.

Along with the joy of seeing ECLIPSE hit her 5th birthday, there was the absolutely draining experience of working on the cover story.

I was asked to be a part of this year’s cover story, a piece on the group Survivors of Suicide, because of the work I do with transgender members of the group.  We had a weekly meeting going for a while, but my work schedule has made it impossible for me to be present enough to run the group.  I wasn’t sure what to expect when I was first asked to be a part of the article.

What it, the interview, ended up being was one of the most exhausting pieces I have ever worked on.  I had thought being in ECLIPSE’s story about being transgender in SL was exhausting.  That was nothing compared to this piece.

Writing about your own mental illness and brushes with suicide is incredibly draining.  And honestly, I didn’t go into anywhere near the depth of my experiences the way some of the others interviewed for the article did.  Their bravery in discussing the darkest days of their lives was amazing and I have so much respect for them for being willing to do that.  I mean, I spent days answering my interview questions and I…I cried a lot, felt exhausted after answering each question…and I just couldn’t bring myself to write more about those dark days.  I honestly think that sometimes I feel like I expose sooooooooooo much when I write about being trans that I just couldn’t, for my own emotional well being got to that place.

Thankfully, Trouble also balanced the issue out with some positives.  He included stories about love in Voices From The Grid.  He also asked several of us to do pictures on loving ourselves and self care for Through The Lens.  I did this picture for Through The Lens to show how I like to take care of myself.

It’s no secret that I love the beach.  I’ve written about that many times here.  The same with loving my pup, Dozer.  The two together…heaven.  So when Trouble asked me to do a picture about what I do to care for myself…this pictures was a no brainer.

As I deal with some things in RL right now, I am reminded of how important care for myself is.  The cover story article reminded me of that too.

Guess it’s time to practice what I preach…

Make sure you check out the anniversary edition of ECLIPSE too.
